Morsels of Might: How Yeliz Turned Cancer Into a Catalyst for Compassion
Have you ever felt overwhelmed? Like you have all this information coming at you, things to do, places to be, and it’s hard to keep it all straight?
Yeliz knows that feeling all too well. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she found herself inundated with information, leaving food and nourishment as an afterthought.
"It was a whirlwind. Everyone was talking AT me with information, everybody offering something new, and it felt impossible to keep up. So, when I packed for my first 8-hour treatment day, I included puzzles, music, everything you can think of... except food. Food didn't even cross my mind."
Can you imagine that? A long, exhausting day filled with chemo and uncertainty, but nothing to eat.
And Yeliz isn't alone. Many cancer patients go through treatment on empty stomachs because most hospitals don’t provide meals during these difficult, draining days.
But then, something beautiful happened.
Thanks to this amazing community of generous supporters, Yeliz received a meal from a top Chicago restaurant, delivered right to her during treatment.
For Yeliz, that meal wasn’t just food—it was a comforting moment on an otherwise chaotic day. When it arrived, it felt like a thoughtful gift, taking a huge weight off her shoulders. Instead of worrying about what she was going to eat, Yeliz could focus on getting through her treatment with one less thing to stress over. It was a small act that made a big difference, reminding her she wasn’t alone in her journey.
“Everything about chemo day is so stressful, from getting a bag ready the night before to not knowing how each infusion is going to affect my body. Not having to think or worry about what to eat during the infusion reduces so much stress on a really stressful day.”
That’s the real magic you help create—you make sure patients like Yeliz feel cared for, nourished, and supported during some of their toughest moments.
Yeliz is cancer-free and has turned her journey into a lifeline for others.
We’re thrilled to share that Yeliz will celebrate her third year cancer-free this November! Yay, Yeliz!
Inspired by the love and support she received from this kind-hearted community, her gratitude has turned into action.
Yeliz joined The Line, our monthly giving community, and volunteers to deliver meals when she’s in Chicago.
“I joined The Line and give back to Culinary Care because I know firsthand how incredibly needed this is.”
What started with a meal on one of Yeliz’s toughest days has grown into a story of community and hope—not just for her, but for so many others who now benefit from her generosity. Yeliz’s journey from receiving care to giving back shows the incredible power of turning compassion into action.
Thank you for being here and helping us work toward a world where every cancer patient can look forward to their next meal and feel the comfort of knowing they have one less worry on their plate.
