Culinary Care Kicks-Off 10th Anniversary Celebration
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — March 2023 – Culinary Care, the female-founded, Chicago-based non-profit creating meal programs that help families fight cancer, today announced the launch of a year-long celebration of the organization’s 10th anniversary.
Culinary Care creates meal programs that fill critical voids in the cancer community and address the root causes that can lead to malnutrition. Their treatment day meal program delivers free, high-quality meals from Chicago restaurants. Their holiday meal program provides ready-to-heat chef-made meals. Their patient navigator program reduces isolation and makes mealtime easier for families receiving Culinary Care.
Since its inception in 2013, Culinary Care has delivered over 30,000 free meals to individuals and families fighting cancer — reducing loneliness, restoring hope, igniting joy, and fostering community.
Courtney Johnson founded Culinary Care at the age of 23 after seeing how food helped her father’s battle with lung cancer and how meals delivered to their home from family and friends gave Courtney’s family one less thing to worry about during treatment.
“1 in 5 cancer deaths each year is a direct result of malnutrition. We’re on a mission to change that,” Johnson said. “From day one, we’ve believed access to high-quality meals and a community that cares can transform treatment outcomes. And we’re proving it with every meal.”
Studies show that proper nutrition, meals, and support, improve cancer treatment and survival rates.
“Ten years ago, Culinary Care was an idea. A vision for a better world for families fighting cancer. A world where food brought joy instead of stress, families had a moment of normalcy, and everyone was given the best chance to live longer and happier lives. This world is closer than ever,” Johnson said. “Thanks to generous donors, we've responded to the cancer community's needs. No matter what has come our way over the last decade, we've continued to grow and be a virtual lifeline for cancer patients, and we’re not slowing down any time soon.”
